I agree with the sentiment in the latter end of this, and tweeted something to that effect shortly after I tapped out the one you excerpted above: “If anything, it probably speaks to the dearth of readable media criticism in this country.” It may also speak to the irrelevance or lack of interest in critical essay writing in Canada, a point that was made in a Walrus essay a while back.
