CMG Freelance launches new website

CMG FL Bug FINAL REDThe Canadian Media Guild has launched a new website for its freelance branch. Designed as “a 21st century commons for self-employed workers,” the new site offers news updates and professional supports that include information about education and training programs and extended health benefit packages.

CMG freelance organizer Datejie Green says that although the site went live last week, there are a number of important additions still on the way.

“Now the site’s up and live, our next priority is the Member Directory,” she says.

“We’re working on it, literally!”

CMG freelance members will be invited to add a profile and portfolio samples to the directory. Further details about the directory can be found here and we’ll announce its launch on Story Board.

Once the member directory is up and running, Green says a section on contracts will be added to the site. A downloadable boilerplate contract will offer “samples of ‘best clauses’, ‘language you can’t live without,’ and the ‘no, no, nevers,’ of contract clauses and language.”

“This will only be a guide of course. Calling our freelancer-savvy staff is always the best way to get to the heart of any matter,” says Green.

The new website’s architecture is responsive on all mobile devices, with a collapsible menu and event calendar, a column of written stories and a user-scalable media pane that highlights visual work and stories.

Annual membership in CMG freelance is $150. To learn more about membership, follow this link or email freelance@cmg.ca.
